Introduction to the Mini-Review Series

The Yale Journal of Biology and Medicine, recognizing the necessity to bridge the gap between the practicing physician and the medical scientist, has started a series of short reviews in areas of basic science. The series opened with Dr. Paul Lebowitz's article on oncogenes [Lebowitz J: Oncogenic genes and human malignancy. Yale J Biol Med 56:121-129, 1983]. The articles intend to introduce and explain fields of scientific research which are exciting and relevant to the physician. The following paper by Dr. Thomas L. Lentz et al. continues this series.
